Karel Komárek: We stand with Ukraine
Four years after the start of Russia's full-on invasion, it is more important than ever to be clear and unequivocal in our support for Ukraine.
Supporting Ukraine is a sign of responsibility: upholding the values on which our society is based – respect for human life, freedom and the rule of law.
Through our companies MND and Avenga, our dedicated teams on the ground and the Karel Komárek Family Foundation, we continue to do business, make investments and provide assistance to local communities in Ukraine. We offer meaningful employment; are developing energy and technology solutions; and supporting education, healthcare, culture, veterans, and families affected by the war. We are not doing this because we have to. We are doing it because we believe that responsibility towards our colleagues, our partners and our communities is integral to who we are as a business, and the role we want to play in the world.
Our commitment is not a short-term gesture. It is an expression of our long-term belief in the strength of Ukrainian society, its resilience, and its ability to get back on its feet. Everything we do is founded on these beliefs. It is our way of standing with Ukraine.
Russia has long tried to create the impression that it is striving for peace. The reality tells a different story. Russia continues to attack civilians, infrastructure, and energy resources. It talks about negotiations while bombing cities, hospitals, schools and libraries. It talks about stability while spreading chaos. We must not succumb to this false rhetoric. True peace cannot be built on occupation and violence. If we close our eyes to injustice today, we may become its victims tomorrow.
So, KKCG will continue to be a reliable partner to Ukraine—today, tomorrow, and during its recovery. Because a free and secure Ukraine is the key to a secure Europe and a future in which truth, justice, and human dignity prevail.
Q&A: KKCG in Ukraine
KKCG has maintained a strong, long term presence in Ukraine through two of our pillar companies: MND, operating in the energy sector, and Avenga, a global technology and engineering company. Despite the ongoing war, both companies continue to operate, invest, and contribute to Ukraine’s economic stability, technological development, and energy security.
In addition, the Karel Komarek Family Foundation and MND also support the Ark for Ukraine project, an important and innovative initiative designed to protect Ukraine’s cultural heritage from wartime destruction.
Avenga runs one of its key global technology centres in Ukraine, employing more than 900 IT specialists across Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Poltava. These teams deliver complex digital solutions for clients in Europe, North America, and beyond.
MND investments in Ukraine support the country’s energy self sufficiency and long term energy security. Activities include oil and gas exploration, production, and renewable energy.
MND has made significant recent discoveries, including the Tynivska (2024) and Pivdeno Girska (2025) deposits, and holds a stake in the Oriv wind farm, which completed construction in 2024, despite the many challenges presented by the war.
Ukraine remains a key growth market for both conventional and renewable energy, with MND continuing to expand with new wells, 3D seismic surveys, and participation in licensing auctions while also deepening its strategic partnerships with Ukrainian companies.
Avenga integrates CSR into its daily operations with a focus on:
- Humanitarian and medical aid, including UNITED24 donations, blood drives and first aid training
- Internal grant programs for employees and branches
- Support for mobilized colleagues and their families
- Assistance for children’s homes, shelters, and vulnerable community groups
- Educational initiatives for children, veterans, and women
- Well being, healthy lifestyle, and cultural programs
MND’s community and social programs focus on children, families, education, veterans, and local municipalities. Key initiatives include:
Support for children and education
- Partnership with the Olena Zelenska Foundation on the Schools of Superheroes — educational centers in children’s hospitals
- Support for foster families, mothers, and children affected by the war
- Cooperation with Ivano-Frankivsk University to strengthen local professional capacities
Support for veterans
- Programs promoting parasports and physical activity for veterans to aid rehabilitation and social reintegration
Support for local communities and public institutions
- Partnerships with municipalities in MND’s operating regions
- Support for activities of the Czech Embassy in Kyiv and the Consulate General in Lviv
- Participation in the Partnership for Sustainable Recovery in Ukraine programme, focused on community energy, efficient buildings, waste management, and climate adaptation
Energy assistance
During the first winter of the war, MND purchased four generators for the city of Irpin. In early 2026, it supplied an additional 10 generators worth CZK 11 million for Kyiv.
The Karel Komárek Family Foundation (KKFF) responded immediately after the 2022 invasion by delivering humanitarian aid and supporting the integration and education of Ukrainian children in the Czech Republic.
KKFF also leads the Ark for Ukraine project, designed to protect Ukraine’s cultural heritage from wartime destruction. Developed with the Czech Ministry of Culture, the Czech National Library, and the National Museum, Ark deploys specialized vehicles equipped with advanced technology to safeguard and digitize cultural artifacts across Ukraine.
The first mobile unit is currently operating in Odesa, with additional units being deployed.
