Tornado in South Moravia hits the MND technological park in Lužice. The Karel Komárek Family Foundation and Sazka donate 150 million Kč to redevelop the region with immediate effect

Yesterday’s tornado, which ravaged South Moravia, also damaged the newly-built MND technological park and the DataSpring data centre. No employees in the complex were injured. The extent of the damage is yet unknown, but according to estimates, it will rise up to hundreds of millions of Czech crowns. Karel Komarek, the founder of KKCG Group, has pledged immediate financial support for the region, which also happens to be where he was born.

The aforementioned companies belong to KKCG Group, which is owned by Karel Komarek. The Karel Komarek Family Foundation is allocating a minimum of 150 million Czech crowns to the devastated region. Sazka a.s., which Mr Komarek owns, is donating 50 million of this total sum. This financial aid is meant for the long-term renovation of communities that have been affected, and as immediate help for employees of the Group and their families. “I come from Hodonin, and this disaster has affected me deeply. We need to act quickly. As a result, we immediately made the adequate funds available to deal with the immediate needs of the victims, and enough to gradually bring the local community back to life. We are also ready to make further funds available if necessary,” explains Karel Komarek.

Lužice technological park:

The recent natural disaster destroyed buildings in the MND Drilling and Services complex. Buildings belonging to the Báňská emergency services (HBZS) were also affected. Their employees are currently trying to recover the rest of their equipment. Laboratories and a warehouse storing geological materials were heavily damaged. Work is currently being done to remove precious lab equipment that does not require repair. Importantly, no oil or gas managed to escape and extraction was stopped in time. Following a necessary check, extraction will restarted and should not be affected too much.

DataSpring

The Lužice complex also houses a modern data centre, which belongs to DataSpring. The natural disaster damaged the facade of the building, including office space. The Lužice data centre is now operating under crisis protocol. “The data hall has been stabilised for now, and we are currently trying to re-instate power, connectivity, and cooling. At the moment, we are able to provide all the necessary services to our customers without any limitations,” says Jaroslav Biolek, Member of the Board of Directors of the ARICOMA Group, a technological branch of KKCG which includes DataSpring.
