Inhabitants of Prague and the Central Bohemian region can contribute to improving the public space in their municipality
Transform Your Town, the name of a new grant program by Karel Komárek's Proměny Foundation, which is intended for all initiatives that strive to develop the public space in urban areas and rural municipalities. The program offers assistance to active individuals and organizations that want to bring attention to the unused potential of public urban areas, initiate a transformation process, and make specific changes to the appearance of a particular locality. The first season of the program will focus on Prague and the Central Bohemian Region. Selected projects will be executed in the course of next year.
The main objective of the Transform Your Town program is to provide support for projects initiated at the grass-roots level, which contribute to improving the environment in cities and rural municipalities. "We want to bring attention to the vital role of these activities and show that even small-scale effort can lead to far-reaching changes – both in specific localities where people live and in how the individuals perceive the public space and ways in which it is developed," explained the mission of the program Proměny Foundation's Director Jitka Přerovská. "We hope that the new program will help us continue to spread information about how the urban landscape affects the quality of our lives."
The current grant program, Transform Your Town 2016, will focus on rejuvenating and developing the public space in cities and rural municipalities in the Central Bohemian Region and within the city of Prague. Proposals can be submitted by nongovernmental nonprofit organizations, organization partly funded from public budgets, and civic initiatives, including informal associations. As part of the first call for proposals, the Foundation will distribute as much as 527,000 crowns, where the maximum value per grant will be CZK 100,000.
