MND is taking a step in the direction of renewable resources, investing into photovoltaic power plants and more

At a press conference, MND announced investments in photovoltaic power plants, as well as a new offer for customers, in the sphere of renewable resources. The Group is finishing the construction of a photovoltaic power plant in Southern Moravia and the acquisition of another one in Orlová near Ostrava, adding in aggregate nearly 10 MWp from renewable resources. Another innovation is an offer for residential end customers of easy and fair buying of electricity from photovoltaics. Known as the Solar Account, it credits CZK 2,000 per 1 MWh including VAT.

The Solar Account makes it possible for MND’s residential customers to sell electricity from photovoltaics of up to 50 kW at the current price of CZK 2,000 per MWh, including VAT, with a simple indefinite-term agreement. Customers will pay a monthly fee of CZK 60, including VAT, for the maintenance of their Solar Account, regardless of the volume purchased. MND customers can combine the Solar Account with any MND power supply tariff. The balance of the account can be checked easily at the My MND portal. In addition to the current balance in CZK, customers can also see the volume of electricity purchased. Customers can use the funds obtained through the sale to reduce their own electricity costs as part of the billing.

“For customers, the key advantages of buying power from photovoltaics or the Solar Account from MND include the ease of arrangement, a price known in advance, and a comprehensible indefinite term agreement,” describes Milan Duba, Executive Director of MND Energie.

New customers can open a Solar Account with MND in a single step, together with an agreement on associated power supply services, online at www.mnd.cz or by calling the customer line at 800 400 500. Existing customers will be able to open a Solar Account via the My MND customer portal. The product is designed for households that own a photovoltaic power plant with an installed capacity of up to 50 kW operated without a licence and who have the possibility to let excess electricity flow over to the network arranged with the distribution system operator.

Two new photovoltaic plants

The manufacturing section of MND is also focused on renewable resources projects. The Group has just completed the acquisition of a new photovoltaic power plant in Orlová near Ostrava with a capacity of 7MWp. In the near future, another power plant – Mušov in Southern Moravia – should start supplying power. Comprised of a total of 5,640 panels on a two-hectare site, its total installed capacity is 2.65 MWp

Interestingly, archaeologists discovered dozens of 6th-century Langobard graves during the preparatory works on the site. MND donated CZK 400,000 to the surveys, which allowed workers from the Archaeological Institute of the Czech Academy of Science in Brno to uncover jewellery, coins, and other objects of the elites buried during the Barbarian Invasions.

“By the end of the year, our photovoltaic projects should reach an installed capacity of 11 MWp, meaning that we will be at 70 percent of our commitment to cover at least the entire power consumption of the MND Group from its own renewable resources by 2025,” said head of the MND Energy Division Jana Hamršmídová.
