The City of Hodonín and the Karel Komárek Family Foundation (KKFF) have marked the completion of the five-year restoration of Bažantnice with the official opening of Park U Červených domků. Investment in the transformation of the damaged public space exceeded three quarters of a billion Czech crowns, approximately EUR 30.9 million.
The project’s scale — both in value and in the number of people and organisations involved — makes it an exceptional intervention in Czech public space.
Five years ago, Hodonín could hardly have imagined that its post-tornado recovery would become a model for other Czech cities. Cooperation between KKFF and the city enabled Hodonín to expand its original 2021 plan from 12 projects to 24, with a total value of approximately EUR 32.5 million.
The transformation is unmatched in the Czech Republic. Around 2,500 people contributed to the effort, alongside 45 partner organisations and professionals from 12 architecture and landscape studios. In addition to the city, 25 co-investors helped finance the work.
