Škopek will be appointed a member of KKCG's board of directors at the next board meeting. He will oversee retail operations throughout the KKCG Group and will take part in the management of SAZKA a.s., CKF a.s., OPAP SA, and MND a.s. Škopek's responsibilities will mainly include defining the retail strategy and its objectives, managing retail projects, and overseeing the development of retail activities with focus on growth and increase in sales, including the drafting of operations, sales, marketing, and financing plans and restructuring projects for retail companies across the KKCG portfolio.
Martin Škopek is a well-known expert in the Czech banking sector. In the past, he has specialized in the development of retail services for private and small-business clients, both at the strategic regional level and at the operations level in individual Central and Eastern European countries. For many years, his career was intertwined with Erste Bank, where he served during 1999 to 2006 as a member of the Česká spořitelna Board of Directors responsible for retail operations. Škopek has taken part in the transformation of the Erste Group into a bank providing modern retail services. During 2010 to 2012, he was the highest placed Czech at Erste's Vienna-based head office, where he oversaw not only the transformation process, but also the management of services for the Erste Group's retail clients, which included 17 million individuals in eight Central and Eastern European countries. In 2012, Škopek was appointed Executive Vice President for Retail and Private Services of S.C.Banca Comerciala Romana, a member of the Erste Group. At the outset of his banking career in the 1990s, he worked for Komerční banka where he held various positions, mostly in the Retail Division.
An alumnus of the University of Economics in Prague, Martin Škopek has also studied at the Jack T. Conn Graduate School of Community Banking, Oklahoma City University and earned an E-MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management.
